The article in the first link here reminds me of one of my favorite books, _America is in the Heart_ by Carlos Bulosan. Bulosan was a very poor peasant in the Philippines in the early 20th century who immigrated to the United States, where he learned how to read and write and became a labor/social activist and writer. His life was a contradiction between the repression and persecution that he too-often faced in the US, and his undying belief in the American dream which he held in his heart and which motivated him to devote his life to struggle for the very best America possible....
