I haven't had a chance to read the Education Week special issue (first on the list) thoroughly yet, but it looks quite interesting. There seems to be a wealth of data and I know that the editors were seeking to go beyond the basic issues of unequal amount of computers to try to present a more in-depth analysis of how technology is used in different settings.
The New York Times article (second on the list) provides an excellent brief example of how computer-mediated communication is transforming the means of production of knowledge. Stevan Harrnad has been writing interesting things about this same topic for a decade (third on the list).
Have a good weekend, and happy mother's day! I'll be spending the
weekend with my mom (from North Hollywood, California, where I grew up) and my
sister and brother-in-law (from Morro Bay, California). That's one of the
wonderful things about being back in California after a decade of
globe-trotting -- more opportunities to spend time with family.
cheers,
Mark
